Three Siblings, One Dream, Endless Possibilities: A Family Recipe for Success

Faced with limited employment opportunities, three young siblings from Nelson Mandela Bay turned their passion for baking into a thriving business that is creating opportunities not only for themselves, but for their community. Established in 2021 and operational since December 2022, Bake It Perfect (Pty) Ltd is a 100% black youth-owned township bakery, with 67% black female ownership.

As South Africa commemorates Youth Month, Bake It Perfect stands as an inspiring example of how young people are creating opportunities, driving local economic growth, and reshaping the future of township economies.

At the heart of the business is Director Mihlali Quntana, whose journey from culinary student to entrepreneur laid the foundation for Bake It Perfect. Armed with professional training and industry experience, she saw an opportunity to transform her passion into a family business that could create lasting impact.

Recognising the business's potential to expand its reach and impact, the ECDC invested R69 695 towards the acquisition of baking equipment, enabling the business to increase production capacity and strengthen its long-term sustainability.

Today, the bakery serves a growing customer base with a range of freshly baked products, becoming a valued local business while contributing to economic activity. By operating within the township economy, Bake It Perfect demonstrates how locally owned businesses can stimulate economic activity, create jobs, and keep value circulating within communities. The business currently employs nine people and continues to explore opportunities for further expansion and job creation.

More than a bakery, Bake It Perfect represents the determination of Eastern Cape youth. Its journey demonstrates how entrepreneurship can transform passion into opportunity, while contributing to inclusive economic growth.
