As we close Mental Health Awareness Month, may we be reminded that true wellbeing is not one-dimensional, it is holistic. Our mental, emotional, and physical health are deeply interconnected, shaping how we show up at work, in our families, and in our communities. When one part of our wellbeing is neglected, everything else is affected. At the ECDC, we believe that nurturing this balance is not only a personal responsibility but also a social and economic imperative.
One of the enterprises championing this cause is Blaque Magic, a proudly 100% Black-owned business founded by Mr Viwe Mbotya in October 2022. Driven by a vision to safeguard and develop sport in the OR Tambo region and across South Africa, Blaque Magic offers an impressive range of services including cardio, aerobics, swimming, free weights, crossfit training, bodybuilding, and boxing. Blaque Magic is more than a fitness centre; it is a space where people strengthen both body and mind, finding purpose and discipline through sport. The business has created 38 permanent jobs, contributing not only to individual health but also to local livelihoods.
In 2024, the ECDC extended much needed support to Blaque Magic by providing marketing material valued at R28 300, including teardrop banners, wall banners, pull-up banners, and branded tablecloths. This investment enhanced the business’s visibility, allowing it to attract more members and sustain its growth. The ripple effect is profound, healthier individuals, engaged youth, and a community empowered with opportunities for fitness, discipline, and employment.
Blaque Magic serves as reminder that wellbeing is not a luxury but the foundation of productivity and sustainability, for individuals, enterprises, and entire communities. The ECDC remains committed to supporting businesses that drive economic development while uplifting the holistic wellbeing of our people.
