Four East London sports venues are sporting a R16,5 million upgrade, in anticipation of the SA Games which the city is to host in March.
Facilities earmarked for the upgrade include Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane, Jan Smuts Stadium, Selborne Parke and the Joan Harrison Aquatic Complex. The work at the facilities are either in an advanced stage or complete.
Improvements include a new synthetic track and the upgrading of the electronic equipment at the Jan Smuts Stadium. The upgrade at the Joan Harrison encompasses the heating of the pool and the installation of the electronic timing equipment.
The Sisa Dukashe Stadium now sports a new roof and the change rooms complete with hot water. Selborne Park had its car park paved and palisade fencing installed around the facility. The grandstand was also repainted.
The revamp has been funded by the Buffalo City, the National Lottery Fund, the Consolidated Municipal Infrastructure Programme and the Amatole District Municipality.
