SHAMWARI GAME RESERVE in the Eastern Cape has taken home two at the prestigious annual World Travel Awards in New York. They are the “World’s Leading Conservation Company” and “Africa’s Leading Safari”. The Mantis Collection, which owns Shamwari, also went home with the “World’s Leading Boutique Hotel” award for the Saxon Hotel in Johannesburg. Adrian Gardiner, Co-Chairman of the Mantis Collection was delighted with the awards. “After the great performance of South African destinations at the Condé Naste Traveller Readers’ Choice Poll Awards in New York last week, it is remarkable for Shamwari and the Saxon to be honoured at the World Travel Awards. It is truly a feather in the cap for South Africa as a world travel destination, and Mantis Collection is very proud to be part of it.” The World Travel Awards were conceived in 1993 to acknowledge and celebrate excellence in the world’s travel and tourism industry. Now in its tenth year, travel professionals and discerning travellers have come to regard the World Travel Awards as the very best endorsement that a travel product could hope to receive. Thousands of travel agents and industry members from around the globe vote for the winners from a selection of nominations. Shamwari Game Reserve and The Saxon Hotel are proud members of the Mantis Collection. Other properties in the portfolio include Lake Pleasant Hotel & Spa in Knysna, Steenberg Hotel and Vineyards in Cape Town, Jock Safari Lodge in the Kruger National Park, Sanbona Wildlife Reserve in the Little Karoo and Draycott Hotel in Chelsea, London.
