Underwire contract gives company a lift
Posted on: Friday, 19 September 2003. Article source: Eastern Cape Business News
WENDON SPRINGS, one of the Port Elizabeth Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (PERCCI) newest Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) members has been awarded a R5-million underwire manufacture deal from Playtex South Africa. Owen Simons, co-owner of Wendon Springs, was assisted by PERCCI BEE Project Manager, Roshan Makan. According to Simons, Wendon Springs is looking into the manufacture of automotive springs in the new year. Its machinery has the ability to be adapted for these purposes. “We have the capacity and the skills available. We have also managed to bring a competent spring maker down from Cape Town. He has twenty-five years experience and is able to train our staff.” Playtex has, he believes, opened doors for the company which he co-owns with his father Desmond “I believe that the current contract will help us in the export arena. Playtex is a subsidiary of an international company and this will be to our advantage.”
