Delta to distribute Daewoo vehicles
Posted on: Friday, 05 September 2003. Article source: Eastern Cape Business News
THE PORT ELIZABETH – based Delta Motor Corporation is to take charge of the marketing and distribution of Daewoo in South Africa. This follows the take-over of the South Korean motor company by General Motors in 2002. General Motors owns 49 per cent of Delta. Communications Manager Denise van Huyssteen told Business Report that Delta was assessing its strategy for the future distribution of the Daewoo products. What is termed a “major announcement” is expected from Delta within the next month. In March this year Delta took over the distribution and support of the Chevrolet brand in South Africa and Botswana. According to the latest figures from the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa, Delta together with the two other Eastern Cape motor assemblers Volkswagen South Africa and DaimlerChrysler accounted for 36 per cent of national vehicle sales in August 2003. August sales of just over 34 600 units were the highest for the month in South Africa since 1983. The province provided 42 per cent of all new passenger cars sold in the country, while DaimlerChrysler led the heavy and medium commercial vehicle sectors.
