Business is giving its backing to the Working World Extravaganza, an annual career exhibition that will be hosted in Port Elizabeth from March 16-18 and in East London on July 19 and 20.
The initiative, which includes seminars, counselling and the distribution of a career guidance workbook to all metro schools, is now in its sixth year.
As a result of its success, Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka rewarded organiser Inkanyezi for its contribution to education and job creation at the provincial Jobz Summit.
The departments of education and labour are partners in the event, which is endorsed by the Port Elizabeth Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
More than 10 000 pupils, mostly Grade 12s, participated in last year’s event in Port Elizabeth, while 40 000 Grade 12s benefited from a national road show with events in East London, Pretoria and Durban.
The event has gained additional support this year from the Eastern Cape Development Corporation, which will be participating in the exhibition with the specific aim of promoting entrepreneurship.
Other organisations that will be participating in the event are VWSA, Nelson Mandela Metro Municipality, National Ports Authority, Aspen Pharmacare, KPMG, Telkom, SA Post Office, Dept of Labour, Dept of Transport, SA Port Operations and SA Revenue Services.
The career exhibition is free for Grade 12s, their parents and teachers.
