Volkswagen South Africa opens test track
Posted on: Friday, 21 September 2001. Article source: Eastern Cape Business News
VOLKSWAGEN South Africa has opened a new vehicle test track at its plant in Uitenhage. The three-kilometre track was built at a cost of R5-million, and includes banked corners, a 1.1 kilometre straight for high-speed tests and a skidpan. Managing director Hans-Christian Maergner says the new facility will help the Eastern Cape manufacturer to secure further export orders. VWSA currently supplies Golf 4 cars to Europe. Other vehicle manufacturers and developers will be able to hire the track, says Maergner.
