Posted on: Thursday, 10 February 2005. Article source: Daily Dispatch
The former Eastern Cape director-general, Dr Mvuyo Tom, has been appointed by the University of Fort Hare as head of its School of Public Management and Development.
Fort Hare spokesperson Luthando Bara said the UFH was excited at the new appointment, given Tom's extensive professional expertise as a chief policy maker and chief executive in the public service.
"This follows the university's goal of bringing the world of learning and working closer, and trends observed in the United States, Asia and Europe where universities actively recruit professionals into the academic environment," said Bara.
Tom, who is a former UFH student, is on a five-year contract with the university.
Tom, who has a MB ChB degree, also holds masters degrees in Family Medicine and Public Management, and is currently completing an academic programme at the University of London in the United Kingdom.
Bara said Tom would undoubtedly bring new insights into the academic environment, enriching the UFH's understanding of the complex makings of government policy, administration and social dynamics.
Tom said his new post was challenging as it was about human resource development for public management and development generally.
