ANOTHER multi-million-rand housing development is being planned but this time for middle and low income residents.
The project, planned on 390 hectares at Chintsa on the East Coast resorts road, will have no RDP-type homes but three- and four-bedroomed houses so that it proves a good investment for everyone, said a developer.
It is also expected to have a shopping complex, sports fields and a community hall.
KaManga Bay Developers director Graham Stanton, who is also the owner of nearby Inkwenkwezi Game Reserve, said a steering committee has been working for three years to secure land.
“With two major golf developments in the area, it is clear that the gap between those who have money and those who don’t will widen.
Stanton, whose company donated the 390 hectares to the community, added: “We decided on creating a town within a town, where our people will live happily and have access to everything easily.”
The Great Kei Municipality has been roped in as well, to look into how the government could help low earners as well as unemployed residents.
The steering committee which has been headed by, among others, school principal Mbongeni Pongoma, held a meeting on Wednesday to give residents a chance to give their input into the project. Pongoma, however, declined to comment yesterday.
Stanton said: “What we have made clear is that we do not want our people to live in those small RDP houses.”
“We will raise funds for three to four bedroom houses even for low income earners, so that those who can afford to build decent houses on this land would make a good investment.”
Stanton added that, although the plan was a “known secret”’ it was its early stages.
