Major Upgrade

Work has started on the 66km, 132 kV line between Ugie and Qumbu, with completion due in September 2007. Budgeted cost of the project is R63.6-million. A memorandum of agreement was signed between ECDC, PG Bison and Eskom in May to initiate the project. The costs are to be shared between Eskom and PG Bison on the basis of required capacity. PG Bison reserved 16 MVA and Eskom 8 MVA, and the project is being funded by the parties in the same ratio. "This is the start of a fantastic opportunity for the community of Ugie and the surrounding areas. It feels good to be a part of a well coordinated partnership that is focusing on growth and development as well as social upliftment. We are confident that all role players are committed to the success of this project and that it will be the first of many in the area," said Peter Craig, Eskom Regional General Manager, at the signing of the project.
