Trade deals marks growth prospect for province
Posted on: Friday, 09 June 2006. Article source: Daily Dispatch
The Indonesian business delegation left on Monday after signing a trade agreement with the Eastern Cape government.
Premier Nosimo Balindlela and Indonesian delegation member Mintardjo Halim led their delegation members when the agreement was signed at the East London Airport.
"Our economy is going to grow," said Balindlela.
The eight-member Indonesian delegation has been in the province for three days in order to deepen relationships in specific areas.
Provincial government director-general Sibongile Mutwa said the bilateral co-operation agreement had pinned down areas of co-operation to include textile, agro-processing of cotton, arts and crafts and wood and furniture production.
Mutwa said central to the agreement was skills transfer and development.
She, however, pointed out that the provincial government's role was to facilitate relations between businesses in Indonesia and the Eastern Cape, working together with labour.
Mutwa said a structure in government would be set up to monitor and implement the agreement.
Mbulelo Sogoni, MEC for Economic Affairs and Tourism, said the government was always committed to assist with necessary infrastructure to facilitate investment.
He said incentives aiding investment arising from the agreement would be examined later.
