EASTERN CAPE establishments were winners in five categories out of 29 in the AA Accommodation Awards announced at the annual Tourism Indaba in Durban. Provincial establishments were also represented in the golden achievers section, which rewards places that have done well in bringing people to South Africa. Gorah in Addo National Park tented camp was the gold achiever, which is an award it can add to being cited as one of the world's top 52 best new accommodation establishments in the influential Conde Nast international traveller magazine. Another Eastern Cape establishment that made that list was the Kwandwe Game Reserve near Grahamstown. Inducted into the AA Accommodation awards hall of fame for being a category winner three times in a row was Umngazi River Bungalows near Port St Johns. Port St Johns scored again with Cremorne Estate winning the resorts with varied accommodation category. Grahamstown's Cock House, a four-time finalist in the heritage accommodation section, finally won the coveted plaque. Oaklands Lodge in East London was nominated in the bed and breakfast category but did not win. Also nominated for four years in a row were East London's Quarry Lake Inn and Stutterheim's Manderson Country Retreat.
