Delta gearing up for exports
Posted on: Friday, 04 April 2003. Article source: Eastern Cape Business News
THE DELTA motor corporation has confirmed that it is in negotiations with General Motors for the export of fully built up vehicles. General Motors owns 49 per cent of Delta, which assembles Isuzu and Opel models in Port Elizabeth. Delta corporate communications manager Denise van Huyssteen says Delta needs the vehicle exports to earn the credits it needs to be able to offer imported vehicles at competitive prices. Delta is a major exporter of components. Limited quantities of built up vehicles are exported to neighbouring African states. “It is important for the company to secure additional export contracts,” says van Huyssteen said. “Talks, with a view to securing a vehicle export order for Delta, have been ongoing for a considerable amount of time,” she says. "The securing of a vehicle export contract would give Delta more flexibility in offering a full range of General Motors products in SA". Delta has spare capacity to meet export orders, she added. Meanwhile, it has been announced that Delta will provide customer service for Chevrolet vehicles registered in South Africa and Botswana for General Motors African Operations. This expands Delta’s responsibilities from that of manufacturer, distributor, importer and service provider of Opel, Isuzu and Suzuki vehicles, to also include services Chevrolet vehicles.
