Prime resort for sale
Posted on: Friday, 07 March 2003. Article source: Eastern Cape Business News
Investors are being given a unique opportunity to obtain a prime resort property on the Eastern Cape Coastline. The Mpekweni Marine Resort, which is on the coastal road between Port Alfred and East London, is up for sale. Bids for the resort have been invited by the Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC). Mpekweni has been managed by Sun International soon after it was built by the old Transkei government, and is owned by the ECDC. It is described in the advertisement as a “picturesque three-star lagoon and beach holiday resort snuggled in the indigenous dune vegetation of the Sunshine Coast”. The development corporation is calling for expressions of interest in the form of unsolicited bids from the private sector to redevelop or purchase the resort. The intention is to expand the attraction and to keep tourists in the area longer by encouraging private sector investment for the benefit of the area and the existing employees. All interested parties should submit their credentials in writing and apply for a Request for Expression of Interest document which will be sent to applicants who demonstrate technical and financial ability, according to the advertisement. Applications should be directed to The Eastern Cape Development Corporation; attention Welani Mlonzi; PO Box 11197 Southernwood 5213; Fax: 043 7438430, or e-mail wmlonzi@ecdc.co.za
