Province dominates annual entrepreneurial awards
Posted on: Friday, 15 November 2002. Article source: Eastern Cape Business News
EASTERN CAPE companies dominated the 2002 Business Partners entrepreneur of the year awards. Three of the five finalists, including the winner, have their roots in this province. Eastern Cape business leader Stephen Dondolo is at the helm of Ruwekus Fishing, which won this year’s Business Partners Entrepreneur of the Year award. Ruwekus, which has operations in Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, exports South Coast Rock lobster primarily to the United States. According to Dondolo, the majority of Ruwekus shares are held by Eastern Cape people, and some 80 per cent of the lobster is caught off the Eastern Cape coast. Ruwekus was competing against Umtata-based SOS Security Services. Started by Sturu Pasiya five years ago, SOS has grown from a single control room in Umtata, to, a company that holds offices in Durban, Kokstad, Umtata, Lusikisiki, Butterworth, Queenstown, East London and Cape Town. Pasiya will be well known to soccer fans as the founder and owner of the Bushbucks team. Also in the running was Heinz Fischer of Heinz Fischer Engineering, who was the regional winner in the Entrepreneur of the Year Competition. Fischer competed against candidates from the Free State, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape. Fischer Profile’s customers includes Audi, Volkswagen, Toyota, Daimler Chrysler, Lear Corporation and Delta.
