DaimlerChrysler leads heavy truck market

DAIMLERCHRYSLER led the heavy commercial market again in October. According to the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa, DaimlerChrysler provided around 30 per cent of the heavy trucks sold last month. It was second only to Toyota in the Medium Commercial category, and fourth overall in total volume. Volkswagen sold the second-highest number of vehicles, while Delta was fifth. VW, which lost its 14 month lead in the new car market, has launched a new Polo to compete against new models that have been introduced by other manufacturers. Volkswagen South Africa has invested R690-million to produce the new Polo.
