Posted on: Friday, 23 August 2002. Article source: Eastern Cape Business News
A LAND of infinite possibilities is how the Eastern Cape is being showcased under the world's biggest tent at the World Summit on Sustainable Development being held in Gauteng. The provincial government's 189 square metre stand in the Ubuntu Village showcases Eastern Cape projects that reflect the South African government's six core themes - water and sanitation, energy, agriculture and food security, technology, education and health. The stand's other themes are "naturally South Africa's best" and "global vision, local touch" which reflect the Eastern Cape Tourism Board and ECDC respectively. Projects highlighted on the stands include the East London and Coega IDZs. The Eastern Cape Socio-Economic Consultative Council is presenting the economic profile of the province in a geographical information system. Sustainable tourism exhibits include the province's game reserves, the Nelson Mandela Museum, a weaving waste project from Bira and the European Union's support programme to the Wild Coast's flagship Amadiba Adventures. Two hundred boxes of the province's finest craft products have been shipped to the World Summit in Johannesburg. Eastern Cape crafts were selected from 58 Proudly South African-accredited projects and 15 crafters are attending the summit.
