The Eastern Cape presently has an underdeveloped electronics manufacturing sector.  In terms of the growth of the province by way of commercial and manufacturing operations, there is significant development potential and opportunity in the provincial electronics sector for manufacturing operations. 

The East London IDZ is currently in the process of establishing a science and technology park.  It is anticipated that this park will be at the forefront of technological innovation in the Eastern Cape and will provide significant support to businesses engaged in electronics manufacture by way of research and development.

Opportunities in electronics manufacture include:

• Consumer electronics - both the East London and the Coega IDZ provide significant opportunities for the assembly of consumer electronics and communications devices for export to SADC and foreign markets.
• Electronics manufacture for the automotive industry - significant opportunities exist for investors and business to manufacture and produce electronic systems and control modules, navigation systems, instruments, components and software for the automotive industry in the Eastern Cape.
